B. Brian Foster, Ph.D.

B. Brian Foster, Ph.D. is a writer and sociologist from Mississippi. He earned his Ph.D. in sociology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and currently works as Assistant Professor of Sociology at the University of Virginia. His book [em]I Don’t Like the Blues: Race, Place, and the Backbeat of Black Life[/em] (University of North Carolina Press) tells the story of blues development and Black community life in the Mississippi Delta town of Clarksdale. Brian also serves as co-editor of [em]Sociology of Race and Ethnicity[/em]; directed an award-winning short film; and written for local, regional, and national outlets, including [em]Oxford Magazine[/em], [em]Mississippi Folklife[/em], [em]Bitter Southerner[/em], CNN, [em]Esquire[/em], [em]Washington Post[/em], and [em]Veranda[/em].
