A native of Jackson, Mississippi, Kimber received her bachelor’s degree in English from Alcorn State University and her master’s degree in African American Studies from UCLA. She is currently a Ph.D. candidate in American Studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her dissertation utilizes the interdisciplinary tools of material culture and oral history to explore the ways in which the social, cultural, and historical experiences of black southern women have been represented materially.
